Line Types

TPC provides a number of line types for you to use right out of the box. Plus, you can create your own line types.

Pattern Lines

Pattern lines are composed of a series of line segments and spaces. TPC includes standard pattern lines like Dot, Dash, DashDot and so forth.

Text Lines

Text lines include embedded text, as in ---< Utility >----. The embedded text reoccurs at some interval as the line is drawn.

Symbol Lines

Symbol lines include drawing objects like the stone wall or bike path objects in TPC's object library.

Marker Lines

Marker lines include character markers like ticks, slashes and Xs. You can space the markers at any interval, include any combination of line segments, spaces, and markers and even mix markers within the same line.

Predefined Line Types

TPC includes dozens of predefined line types. You'll find the most common pattern, text, symbol and marker lines predefined. To use one, just select it as the line type for your traverse or drawing object. Many of the predefined line types come in varying sizes and lengths. For instance, the Dash_2 line is the same as the Dash line type, but the dashes are only half as long whereas the Dash_X2 has dashes twice as long.

TPC uses appends a _2 to the original line type to indicate that the pattern repeats twice as often. A _X2 appended to the line name indicates that the pattern takes twice as long to repeat.

TPC's predefined line types are included in the TpcLines.DAT file. This file is a self documenting, ASCII text file.

User Defined Line Types

You can add your own line types to TPC by editing the UserLines.DAT file. You can also modify any of TPC's predefined line types by re-defining it in the UserLines.dat file.

Hiding Linetypes You Never Use

If you don't want to wade through line types you never use, you can edit the UserLine.dat file and begin any line with a minus sign '-'. Those line types will still be available to any drawings that reference them, but TPC will not include them in the pulldown list of line types.

Predefined AutoCAD Line Types

TPC includes most of the predefined line types in AutoCAD. TPC replicates them for your use in TPC, and exports the line using AutoCAD's own names when you write a DXF or DWG file.

How the Legend Draws Line Types

You can include any line type in the legend by right clicking the line and choosing Add to Legend.
