TDS CR5, RW5, RAW Files

TPC supports the TDS (Tripod Data Systems) CR5, RW5 and RAW file formats.

Transferring Files

Depending on your computer operating system and handheld, you will transfer data between the handheld and your PC one of the following ways.

RAW Files

The RAW file format is more recent than the RW5 format and include records not available in RW5 format. It is used by the TDS Ranger and Recon data collectors. (Supported in TPC Premium and Professional Editions only.)

RAW files can include all of the record types found in RW5, however, starting with TPC Desktop 2011, TPC also reads DP (deleted point) records. Deleted points can be re-used as side shots or foresights.

Importing TDS CR5 Files (ASCII)

The dialog will indicate when the import is finished.

TPC will add a new traverse to the survey and put all the imported points into it. The imported points also show up in the Points Manager. If you don't want the traverse you can delete it. The points will remain in the Points Manager.

Importing TDS CR5 Files (Binary)

Some TDS data collectors, like the Ranger, do not write ASCII CR5 files. They only write Binary CR5 files. TPC supports these files.

The dialog will indicate when the import is finished.

Exporting a TDS CR5 File

The dialog will indicate when the export is finished.

If you do not find a CR5 file for a particular job on your TDS data collector, run the TDS program on the data collector and export the survey as a CR5 file to the local storage device (the data collector). Now the CR5 file for that job will be available to TPC.
