User Interface

Some of our longtime users weren’t happy with the changes we made to the interface in TPC Desktop 2010. It was a big change and some of you just didn’t like it and continued using your older version of TPC. We want to take a moment to talk about the change and why we made it.

We rarely make major changes to the user interface. In fact, it has only happened twice in the history of Traverse PC. The first time was with the release of TPC Desktop v4.0, our first Windows version, in 1999. The second time was TPC Desktop 2010 in September of 2009. That is a ten year time-span and we don’t anticipate making any major interface changes again until at least 2020. We know that our users get used to doing things a specific way and that these changes can be very jarring. That is why we only make changes like this when there are very strong benefits to doing it and we try to maintain as much unchanged functionality as possible.

TPC Desktop 2010 was visually very different from previous versions of TPC but the basic way the program works has not changed since v1 in 1987! We still use Traverses as the heart and soul of the program. You still set your Traverse Formats the same way. Even the hotkey for setting your Traverse Format hasn’t changed – it is still F9. That is the way most of the program still works. If it worked a certain way in earlier versions, it probably still works the same way, even though it may look quite different.

So – if you didn’t like the new interface in TPC Desktop 2010 and went back to an earlier release, give us a call. We will be happy to show you how to work with the new interface and how much more efficient you can be. There is no obligation to purchase anything but we do have two great special offers if you would like to update your Traverse PC.
