Divide a traverse into two areas: One is the area specified by the user; the other is the remainder.

Method

Hinge Point

(Hinge Method)

Enter the point where you want the dividing line to start. If you did not previously enter a bearing, the selected point in the Traverse View is displayed for the Hinge Point. To change to a different point, just type its point label in this field. Use the [>] pick button to select the point from the current drawing.

Bearing / Azimuth

(Slide Method)

Enter the direction of the dividing line that intersects the traverse in two places to compute the area. You can enter an equation to compute the Bearing if you choose. Use the [>] pick button to select the bearing from the current drawing.

The Predetermined Area dialog box remembers the bearing you enter so if you leave it and come back you will not need to re-enter the bearing.

Note: You can enter either a Hinge Point or a Bearing. You cannot enter both.

Area

Sq. Feet, Acres

Enter the area you want in either square feet or acres (square meters or hectares if using metric units).

Side

This is the side of the dividing line for which you want to compute the area. If you choose to create the Remainder, it will be on the other side of the line.

Save

TPC can create traverses for both the requested area and the remaining area. You can create either on or both. After you create them, you always delete them from the Traverses Manager.

Area

Select this option to create a traverse with the specified area. The area is saved in a traverse called "AREA-" followed by the original traverse name unless you specify a traverse name.

Traverse Name

Name the Area and Remainder traverses to be created. As you enter a new traverse name, TPC displays the traverses that match what you've typed (see Predictive Data Entry). This helps you create a unique name for the new traverse.

Remainder

Select this option to create a traverse with the remainder area. The remaining area is saved in a traverse called "REMAINDER-" unless you specify a traverse name.

Undo

This button is available only after you have computed the area. It will remove from the survey, any traverses and area points that were added by the last Compute.

Summary

This button is available only aft you have computed the area. It adds a section to the current report, providing information on the areas computed.

Compute

Creates the new traverse(s) and returns you to the previous Traverse View.

Close

Returns you to the previous Traverse View without creating the new traverse(s).
