SSDs – A Computing Experience

posted in: News | 0

With the speed improvements from TPC 2016 R2 coming soon, it made sense to talk about another way to make your computer faster that doesn’t involve new software. TPC has made a great effort to ensure opening and working with survey files is fast. Opening a large survey on a standard hard disk drive versus a newer SSD can make all the difference. I’m going to talk a bit about SSDs – Solid State Drives. SSDs are one of the … Read More

Traverse PC’s Message View

posted in: News | 0

The Message View (Window | Message View) is one of the ways that Traverse PC communicates with the user. It is stored automatically and retains all messages, past and current, until the user removes them. I sometimes receive files from users who may be having trouble doing something in Traverse PC. When I open the file, TPC pops up the Message View telling me that it has detected this or that which could interfere with some operations. It is important … Read More

The Value of On-Line Training!

posted in: News | 0

What is on-line training? Well, here at Traverse PC, it is a personal training session through the internet. The computers will “screen share” simultaneously, so both the trainer & the trainee can view and work on the same screen. Here are some of the benefits: You can see how Traverse PC can work with “your” data. Any questions you have, you can see the answer. Of course, “seeing is believing,” that your data can easily be transformed to your map … Read More

TPC Desktop 2016 R2 Beta Release

posted in: News | 0

Our next agile release focuses on speeding up parts of the program that run slow in surveys with lots of points, like LIDAR data. The Points Manager is a good example. In previous versions, just opening the Points Manager in a survey with 50,000 points took just over a minute. In this release, it’s almost instantaneous. The Traverse and Drawing views have similar results. So working with these files in the next release is just a better overall experience. Some … Read More

I polled our office on Chicken preference of White vs Dark meat. It was a split decision! So, I decided that Dark meat wins! This BBQ chicken recipe is juicy, flavorful and easy to do! I Waited and Waited but now, I’m All In!

I am frequently asked by users whether they should update from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Up until now, I have always said, “It’s up to you.” Everything changed in the last few weeks. Now, my answer is, “Absolutely! I would definitely update to Windows 10 if I were you!” I have been on Windows 10 since the day it released. So why has my opinion changed this week? Well, before now, I had seen a couple of things I … Read More

The TPC Connection Is Evolving

posted in: News | 0

It’s been a long time since we shipped a program CD with a TPC Connection renewal. Most folks just download the updates from our web site or use the automatic update feature that’s built into TPC. We have also been moving to online learning guides. You can still install them along with the program, but you don’t need to. By default, they open up online. This allows us to keep them up to date with all the agile release changes … Read More

Automatic Merging of Program Data

posted in: News | 0

TPC Desktop 2016 R1 improved how we bring your existing Program Data forward when you update to a new release.  This is another “little detail” that is very important to our users. TTPC no longer creates copies of your program data folders, we bring all of your program data forward into your new folder and merge the information within files with the same name such as the UserQvSettings.dat and UserSymbols.dat files.  Now you don’t need to browse to find the … Read More

What Lies Between the Boundaries?

posted in: News | 0

Traverse PC 2016 has jumped farther ahead of the rest of the pack with the release of R1 in April. This release has added the ability to compute medial lines on a closed loop traverse! It’s one of best tools I’ve developed for TPC and I had a lot of fun with it. This is a very easy routine to use. Simply provide a point label and an optional description and press compute. TPC takes care of the rest. We … Read More

TPC Desktop 2016 R1 Drawing Tools

Last week was fun. I talked with a number of TPC users who said something to this effect, “I can’t tell you how much I enjoy doing my drawings in TPC”. They said it out of the blue – unsolicited. They were enjoying using TPC and wanted us to know. Of course, it’s always fun to hear that someone likes your product or service, but all their comments were about their TPC drawings. They were doing lots of them and … Read More
