- What is the main difference between using Emlid receivers and the equipment I use now?
We have identified 2 main factors that set Emlid GNSS equipment apart from your current setup:
1- COST
Technology has advanced at a rapid rate over the past decade. This advancement has made manufacturing powerful, high-quality GNSS equipment much more affordable and has lowered price tags significantly for consumers. You can now purchase multiple GNSS receivers, plus land surveying software, for the price of one big box data collector.
2- CONVENIENCE
Speaking of data collectors, you can leave yours at home! Instead of your typical data collector, Emlid RTK GNSS receivers work hand-in-hand with a free mobile app called Emlid Flow (available on Android and iOS devices). With Emlid Flow, you can perform linework and coding, stake out points and lines, and much more from your cell phone or tablet device. Eliminating a traditional data collector in lieu of a device you already carry around 24/7 is a huge selling point. Also, you save money by not investing in new, pricey data collectors.
All projects created with the Flow app are available in Emlid Flow 360 software for easy viewing on your laptop or back in the office.

- How do Emlid receivers and apps work without cell phone coverage? What about under dense tree canopy?
Emlid receivers communicate via built-in LTE modems, BlueTooth, and LoRa radio.
Using a pair of Emlid devices as a base and rover is a great option when working in an area without cell coverage. First, you will set up your base. Then, set your first point (relative location) using your rover and Emlid Flow on your mobile device. Once you place the first point, the base and rover will communicate with each other via LoRa as you continue to plot your points.
As you work through your project, the Flow app saves your data. We recommend downloading a file manager app to save Flow data to your device’s internal memory when working without cell coverage.
You can use the same base and rover method when satellite connection is obscured, like when working under dense tree canopy.
- Without a cell phone hotspot, where does Emlid Flow’s data come from to export the CSV file and where does the data go when it imports the averaged positions via CSV?
Emlid Flow always suggests several apps to be pre-installed on your cellular device or tablet to export the CSV file. If you don’t have cell coverage to send it over the Internet, you can use any file manager that works with the internal memory. We suggest File Manager+ for Android devices.
When you import the CSV file, the app suggests that you select from the internal memory of the device. It never exports or imports any CSV files from/to Emlid Reach.
**iOS devices do not require additional file manager apps.
- What’s the best method to transfer CSV files to/from a Windows PC?
If Internet connection is NOT AVAILABLE, Bluetooth is the best method for transferring files to/from a Windows PC.
If Internet connection is AVAILABLE, the best way to exchange data is an account sync between the Emlid Flow/Emlid Flow 360.
- What’s included in a TPC + Emlid package deal?
