John Balcom, President, MSE, PLS, GISPJohn Balcom: The New TPC Desktop Learning Center

We are pleased to announce the new TPC Desktop Learning Center.

This is the place to come when you want to discover and evaluate TPC or learn how to use it better. We’ve combined videos, learning guides, help topics, web pages and on-line resources in one place.

The TPC Desktop Learning Center

Organized by Functionality

We’ve started with over 30 broad topics for you to choose from. Open the tab for the topic you’re looking for then expand the individual section you want. Everything is just a couple of clicks away, so you don’t have to look very far for what you want.

The TPC Desktop Help MenuHelping You Learn

In recent newsletters, we’ve told you about our commitment to provide the help you need, when you need it. We recently added hundreds of help topics for TPC’s messages.

The new TPC Desktop Learning Center is an extension of that commitment. Any time you need help, just pull down the Help menu and choose Learning Center. It’s also available from the TPC On-Line section of the Tasks Manager.

Using the Learning Center

Find your topic, expand the section you need, then watch a video, open a learning guide, read through a help topic, open an online resource… You get it all. Everything about what you are doing is right there in one place.

Help TopicsHelp Topics

Don’t forget that you can still press F1 anywhere in TPC Desktop to bring up the Help system. The Help system includes the table of contents, index and search tools to help you find what you need.

But all of those same help topics are now on-line and accessible from the Learning Center.

Learning GuidesNew Learning Guides

We expanded from four learning guides to eleven so each one can focus on a particular function in TPC. You’ll find new learning guides for COGO, Least Squares, Closure, Adjustments, Surfaces, Point Codes and more.

Expanding the learning guides allowed us to expose more in the Table of Contents, making them much more useful. Open a learning guide in your PDF viewer or web browser, go to the Table of Contents and click on the heading you want. TPC takes you right to that chapter and page in the learning guide.

We provide 260+ videos through our YouTube channel, where playlists organize them into the same topics as the Learning Center.

Web ResourcesWeb Resources

We provide links to on-line resources from our own site and others.

Ways to ConnectWays to Connect

We give you ways to connect with other TPC users.

We’ve added Workflows for

  • Mortgage Survey
  • Boundary Survey
  • Site Survey
  • Topographic Survey
  • Plat Checks
  • ALTA/ACSM Survey
  • Cadastral (PLSS) Survey
  • more to come…

Some include all the steps, from start to finish. Others, like the Boundary Surveyshown here, include steps that are unique to that type of survey.

Workflows are real surveys where we take you along for the ride. Watch as someone else does what you want to do. You don’t have to do it the same way, but at least you know where to start.

TPC Desktop 2017

The TPC Desktop Learning Center uses TPC Desktop 2017. A few older videos remain, but we’re updating those quickly.

We’ve worked hard to make TPC Desktop more efficient and robust. It is faster, easier and more thoroughly tested than any previous release. So we’re putting our best foot forward in the Learning Center.

Ready to Update Your Old Version of Traverse PC?

Now you can update your old version of TPC Desktop and get up to speed quickly with the Learning Center. The Getting Started tab includes lots of videos on how to use the TPC Desktop. Layout the screen the way you want, customize a toolbar, use the new line label formats, it’s all here.
