Calibrating on Import and Export

Many of TPC's data filters, allow you to calibrate data when importing and exporting files.

Import and Export with Calibration (6:16) - Many file types allow calibration on import and export.

Reverse Calibration on Export (5:42) - Once you've created a calibration, you can go the other way with reverse calibration.

Selecting a Calibration

File types (filters) that allow calibrations will display the Calibration fields in their Import and Export dialogs.

Some types allow calibration for both Import and Export while others may allow it for just one (probably because that is the only one supported).

If calibrations are not supported by that file type, the Calibration fields will not be shown.

Direct vs Reverse Calibration

As a rule, you calibrate data to get it onto your survey's CRS (Coordinate Reference System). You want everything on the same grid, so to speak.

If your survey uses a State Plane projection, like NAD83, you want all the coordinates in your survey to be on that State Plane grid. You then use the appropriate Distance Type to display ground distances in COGO routines, drawings and traverses.

If your survey doesn't use any kind of projection, it is considered to be a Local or Local Site CRS, using Cartesian coordinate computations. These coordinates inverse directly to distances measured on the ground at the site.

Reporting Calibrations on Import and Export

TPC can report calibrations of individual points in the Message View.  These are always shown for exports but only shown for imports if [x] Details is turned on in the settings.

TPC reports the calibration being using and whether or not it was reversed.  I then displays the uncalibrated and calibrated coordinates of each point that was calibrated.

Here is an example of what is reported for a calibrated export.
