Polyline Dialog

This option allows you to specify the settings for individual text items.

Layer

Displays the layer the polyline is on.  To move the polyline to another layer, select that layer from the list.

Z

The elevation of the polyline if each vertex is at the same elevation.

Closed

Turn this option on to draw a line from the last vertex of the polyline back to the first vertex.

Paper Space

With Paper Space turned on, the text will not move on the page when you move the survey. If this is turned off, your text will move with the survey.

Fill

Choose a fill type and color for the traverse. Solid and Pattern fills like Diagonal assume the color of the traverse. Bitmap fills retain their own colors.

Filling a polyline forces the closure of the polyline. However, if you are smoothing the polyline and have not selected the Closed toggle in this dialog, the beginning and ending vertices of the polyline will not be smoothed.

Line

Choose a line type, width and color.

Area

TPC can compute the area of any polyline from this dialog. Just click the refresh button and TPC will compute area in square units (i.e. sq ft, sq meters) and area units (i.e. Acres, Hectares).

TPC stores the computed area with the polyline in the TRV file, plus displays the area in the tooltips and Drawing Data Manager.

TPC accounts for the clockwise and conter-clockwise segments of the polyline created by any arcs (bulges) in the polyline.

If the polyline is not closed (does not start and stop at the same point), TPC computes the area as if the polyline were closed.

Smoothing

None or Curve Fit

Choose None to turn smoothing off (default). Choose Curve Fit to turn smoothing on.

Max Offset

Specify the maximum amount from which a smoothed polyline segment will vary from its corresponding unsmoothed segment. The default is 5 units.

Tension

TPC uses the tension value you specify to compute the amount of curvature when fitting the polyline. A tension of 1.0 (default is 1.0) guaranties that no smoothed polyline segment will vary by more than the Max Offset from its corresponding unsmoothed segment. A tension of 0.0 turns off smoothing. Tensions between 0.5 and 2 are common.

Max Angle

Specify an interior angle above which no curve fitting will be done. This allows TPC to skip very flat vertices in the polyline.

Max Curves

Turn this option on to maximize the curves used to smooth the polyline.  See Polyline Smoothing.

OK

You will return to the Drawing View and your new settings will be in use when you click OK.

Cancel

Returns you to the Drawing View without applying any changes.
