Surface Elevations

Once you have created a surface, TPC provides a number of options and commands to work with specific elevations related to that surface. We'll discuss some of those options here.

Restricting Elevations of Source Points

In the Surface dialog, you can restrict the elevations of the source points.

This option lets you limit the topo points that can be included in a surface. If you have some 'wacky' elevation points in your survey, this is a great way to exclude them from the surface.

Use the Find buttons to retrieve the Minimum and Maximum elevations of the surface then modify them appropriately.

Restrict Elevations of Contours

In the Contours Dialog, you can restrict the contours so that only the contours between minimum and maximum values (inclusive) are drawn.

This is a useful tool for showing a flood plane elevation on a drawing.

Restricting Contour Elevations (1:30) - You can restrict the contours that are drawn to a single elevation or an elevation range.

Moving Elevations to a Surface

You can move the elevations of existing survey points to a surface. Use this to create a grid of points for stakeout. Just move the elevation of those points to a surface like the Finished Grade or Subgrade and you are ready to stakeout elevations.

Creating Transects

A transect is a profile of the intersections created by the transect object (a line, arc or traverse) and the triangles (TIN) generated by the surface. When you create a transect, you add the computed intersections to a new or existing traverse. Once added, the traverse can be viewed as a profile, showing the transect of the surface.

You’ll find all the instructions for creating a transect in the Contour Transect command.

Reporting Cuts & Fills

TPC can create a cut sheet, showing the cut or fill of the points in a traverse or a drawing object to a surface.
