TPC can export Traverses, Surfaces, and Points to Google Earth. TPC also exports the following basic drawing entities, like arcs, circles, rectangles, lines, poly lines, and QvText. What TPC exports to a KML file is guided by the what list in the Export / Import dialog.
Icons
UserSymbols.dat now can take a URL which represents a path for an icon usable by points and traverses.
You can edit the user symbols and their URLs from Program Settings | Drawing View | Symbols. This opens the UserSymbols.dat file which is a self-documented text file explaining how to access the icon URLs. If you use custom user symbols in TPC and want an appropriate icon displayed in Google Earth, you will need to create the icon and host it at some URL on the internet. Traverse PC automatically provides icons for most of the standard TPC symbols. If there is no corresponding Google Earth icon for a symbol you use, we substitute the circle icon. See Editing user symbols.
Exporting surfaces
When exporting a surface TPC automatically exports the border traverse (if the surface has one) along with the source traverse or all TOPO points in the survey (depends on the surface's source). TIN and Break lines will only be exported along with a surface if they are being drawn. Go to the Surface Settings dialog and click on the TIN tab. Tag the Draw checkbox for TIN and/or Breaklines.
Exporting Traverses
Traverse PC exports the points and the Google Earth geometry required to display the traverse. You can export traverse line width and color, via a setting in the export settings dialog. All exported traverses will be placed under the default folder "Traverses".
Gap points in a traverse aren't exported by KML. If you want to have something similar to gaps, split up the traverse with the gap and export both those traverses.
Each traverse point exported with a traverse contains enough information to reconstruct that traverse when the KML file is imported back into Traverse PC. If you click the icon for a traverse point, you will see information about the point.
Exporting Traverse Lot Labels
Traverses that have Lot labels tagged under traverse drawing settings will have traverse information stored under the "TraverseInfo" sub-folder. Traverse info will be added only if lot Name, SqFt and/or Acres are tagged under the Lot Labels tab in Traverse Drawing Settings dialog.
The traverse info will be rendered in the center of a lot, marked by a yellow pushpin icon.
Exporting Traverse Sideshots
Traverses that have sideshots in them will have those sideshots exported as points under the "SideShots" sub-folder under the traverse's main folder. Any sideshots in an exported traverse will be added to the KML file.
Export Side Shots (3:45) - Export Traverse PC's side shots to Google Earth via KML/KMZ.
Exporting Points
Selected points from the Points Manager or a traverse view will be exported in the "Points" folder. If a surface uses all TOPO points in a survey as its source, those points will also be placed in the "Points" folder.
Exporting Drawing Entities
You have to export an entire drawing to get the drawn QuickView entities to be exported to the "Drawing" folder. The entities must be in survey space else they won't be exported. TPC supports exporting the following entities: arcs, circles, rectangles, lines, polylines, and QvText items. QvText entities when exported aren't rendered in Google Earth. This is to prevent the screen from becoming cluttered when exporting a large drawing.
These settings can be changed from the Export dialog by clicking the gear icon with Google KML selected as the type. When you click the gear icon you will load the KML Settings dialog and from there you can make changes to the export settings for KML.
