Surface Volume





Traverse PC can use surfaces to compute volumes one of three ways. another surface the border of the surface an elevation

Computing Volumes

You compute volumes in the Volume tab of the Surface Settings dialog. This tab reports the slope areas based on the current slope ranges and allows you to edit the slope ranges as needed.

Reporting Volumes

The computed cut and fill areas can be added to the current report view for publication. See Reports.

Shading Volume Cut/Fill in a Drawing

You can shade the cut and fill areas of a volume computation in different colors and hatchings in your drawing. This is a great tool when comparing two surfaces.

Prism Method

TPC uses a 'prism' method to compute volumes. This method is the most accurate possible method for volume computation using the TIN (triangulated irregular network) of each surface.

To compute the volume, TPC does the following: of the surfaces (base) projects each of the triangles in it's TIN onto the other surface (target)

2.each triangle in the base TIN can then be projected onto the target, creating a prism of cut, fill or mixed volume

3.mixed prisms are separated into their cut and fill counterparts

4.fill prisms are summed to derive the fill volume

5.cut prisms are summed to derive the cut volume
