Defining an ALTA Boundary Traverse

By definition of the 2021 Minimum Standard, a sequence of boundary corners is tested for compliance.  Depending on the test, each adjacent corner or the courses between adjacent corners is tested. If all corners or courses pass their individual test, the boundary passes.

A Boundary Traverse

Most of the time, you will test just the traverse that defines the boundary of the property being surveyed.  Select that traverse in the ALTA dialog.

Accounting for Initial and Closing Points

A boundary traverse can contain points that are not part of the boundary.  These can be the calls from a point of beginning that is not the true point of beginning of the boundary.

TPC allows for this situation and only includes the points from the Initial Point to the Closing Point of the traverse as specified in the Closure Settings.

All Corners and Courses Must Be Solved

When you select a traverse for ALTA testing, all of the control points in that traverse must also be included in the Least Squares solution for Test #1 and all the courses between those control points must be included for Test #2.

If TPC encounters a control point that is not in the Least Squares solution, it will warn you, allowing you to include it an resolve the network.
