Exporting Point Shapes

You can export survey points as GIS points or export a drawing and TPC will convert appropriate drawing objects, like point symbols to their equivalent GIS points.

Exporting Survey Points

•Select the points you want to export (from the Points Manager or a Traverse View), then choose File | Export. You will see the Export dialog.

•Select ESRI Shape from the Type list.

•Tell TPC to export Entire Survey or Selected points from the Points Manager or a traverse.

•Enter a file name for the export file or choose Browse.

•Choose Settings, select the Export options you want and choose OK.

•From the Export dialog, choose Export.

Because actual survey points are exported to the shape file, the database file contains a record for each point that includes the point label, northing, easting, elevation and description of the point. If you choose to export a geographic shape, each point will include a geodetic position instead of coordinates.

The maximum length of a point label written to the database file is 20 characters. The maximum length for a point description is 40 characters.

Exporting Elevations

You can tell TPC to export Point shapes (without elevations) or PointZ shapes (with elevations). See Exporting Shape Elevations.

Exported DBF Data

When exporting points, TPC exports some of the data fro each point to the shape DBF file.

•Name, Description and Atrributes

•Source and State

•Coordinates

•Geodetic position - only when exporting Greographic shapes

See Shape Data Base Files.

Exporting Drawing Points

See Exporting Drawings as Shape Files.
