Exporting Shape Files

TPC can export Survey data (Points, Traverse) or Drawings as shape files. You'll want to consider which export option is best for you.

Exporting Survey Data

You can export selected survey data to a shape file.

If you export the entire survey or select survey points from the Points Manager or a traverse, TPC exports either Point or PointZ shapes.  See Exporting Point Shapes.

If you export selected traverses, you can export each traverse as a Polyline or PolylineZ shape or you can also export just survey points used by those traverses as Point or PointZ shapes. See Exporting Traverse Shapes.

Exporting Drawings

You can also export drawings to shape files. Drawings contains lots of object types, but shape files are limited to only one shape type by design.  So, you need to tell TPC to export either point or polyline objects from the drawing. See Exporting Drawings as Shape Files.

Compressing Shape Files

Many GIS applications import a .zip file that contains the four shape files TPC exports.

Beginning with TPC Desktop 2026, TPC automatically creates the compressed .zip file from the shape files you just exported.

See Compressed (Zipped) Shape Files.
