Checking / Validating Geometry
Prior to TPC Desktop 2026, esri Shape files exported from TPC and imported into QGIS required an extra step for the imported data to become visible on their layers. Two separate steps are described below. You can choose one or the other.
Beginning with TP Desktop 2026, these steps are no longer needed.
Repair Shape File
QGIS can repair a shape file before it imports it.
•Choose View, Panels and make sure [X] Processing Toolbox is checked
•In the Processing Toolbox, scroll down and expand Vector general and select Repair Shapefile
•Select the shape file and choose Run.
Note: After you have repaired the shape file, be sure to import the .shp into QGIS instead of the .zip file, which still contains the un-repaired shape file.
Validate Imported Geometry
QGIS can also validate existing geometry.
•Select the imported layer in the Layers panel
•Choose Vector, Geometry Tools, Check Validity
•From the dialog, choose Run
Note: QGIS will create a Valid output layer you can select to see your imported geometry
